atkexComSvc.exe is associated with ASUS Com Service, a background component used by ASUS utilities. If it produces errors or keeps using CPU, first identify the installed ASUS package and verify the file. Repair or uninstall that package through its supported route. Deleting the EXE or disabling every ASUS service can leave broken dependencies, especially when AI Suite and Armoury Crate share components.
The useful distinction is between a genuine service that is failing, a component another ASUS app still needs, and an unexplained copy using the same name. A filename or one Event Viewer entry cannot make that decision for you.
Identify the file and the ASUS utility behind it
In Task Manager, open Details, find atkexComSvc.exe, and note its PID. Right-click it and choose Open file location. Then open the file’s Properties and inspect its version and Digital Signatures. Check the signature details, not just the company name on the Details tab.
A versioned location such as C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\AXSP\4.00.42\atkexComSvc.exe appears in an ASUS community crash report. Treat that as an example of an ASUS package layout, not a required version or a folder every computer must have. [1] A valid ASUS/ASUSTeK signature, an expected installation location, and a matching installed utility are stronger evidence together than any one clue alone.
- Check Settings → Apps → Installed apps for AI Suite, GPU Tweak, Armoury Crate, and other ASUS utilities. Record their versions and the motherboard or graphics-card model.
- In Task Manager, use Go to service(s) for the process when available. Open that service’s Properties in
services.mscand compare its executable path with the file you just checked. - Check which utility you installed or updated just before the symptom began. Do not assume that the app with an open window is the only package using an ASUS background component.
- If the path, signature, or installation history does not fit, follow the suspicious-copy branch below before repairing software.

Measure the symptom before choosing a fix
Make one short record with the file version, PID, CPU reading, time, and what you were doing. Compare three conditions: a fresh Windows restart after startup activity settles, the ASUS utility open but idle, and one sleep/wake cycle if that reliably triggers the problem. Use the same observation interval, such as two minutes, for each comparison. This is a diagnostic worksheet, not a universal CPU threshold.
- A brief spike that settles. Check whether an update or device refresh was active. Keep the observation; a completed burst alone does not justify removing the service.
- Sustained CPU use, especially after wake. Record the trigger and the ASUS package versions. Close optional monitoring interfaces one at a time and compare the same process. Leave cooling and performance controls in place until you know which package owns them.
- Repeated Application Error entries. Match the faulting application path, module, exception code, and time to the observed failure. An old entry from a different executable is not the current diagnosis.
- The PC freezes or restarts. Record the stop code or failure time as well as the service error. Investigate the wider crash; do not treat a nearby atkexComSvc entry as proof of the cause.
For error details, open Event Viewer → Windows Logs → Application. Compare recent entries with the time you recorded. The ASUS report includes Event ID 1000 and exception 0xc0000005; those details describe that reported application failure, not a universal ASUS fault signature.
If Task Manager actually names ArmouryCrate.UserSessionHelper.exe or LightingService.exe as the busy process, use the corresponding guide. Similar ASUS branding does not make the processes interchangeable.
Repair the package you identified
Save your work, close games, and record any custom profiles you will need to recreate. Obtain current software from the support page for your actual ASUS device and Windows version. Do not install another motherboard’s package just because a forum post names it.
- AI Suite 3. ASUS recommends its AI Suite 3 Cleaner followed by reinstallation for installation or app-opening errors. Check model support first. If Cleaner is unavailable, the FAQ also documents removal through Windows Apps. [2]
- Armoury Crate. For a persistent service error, ASUS recommends restarting, then reinstalling if needed. Its complete removal route uses the Armoury Crate Uninstall Tool and a restart before installing again. [3]
- GPU Tweak or another ASUS utility. Use that product’s current support and uninstall instructions. Do not substitute AI Suite Cleaner simply because the error names the same service.
- Several ASUS packages, or uncertain ownership. Record the package list and service path before making changes. Repair one identified package at a time; ask ASUS support about unresolved dependencies rather than deleting AXSP.
Once the package is repaired, repeat the observation that triggered the original failure. If the issue appeared after sleep, a normal cold start alone is an incomplete check. If the symptom persists, keep the before-and-after version and error details for support instead of cycling through unrelated BIOS, registry, or driver changes.
Why atkexComSvc.exe may remain after an uninstall
A remaining ASUS component is not automatically an uninstall failure. ASUS explicitly documents that AI Suite Cleaner can preserve components shared with Armoury Crate so the latter continues to work. Its example prompt names AXSP and ASUSFanControlService. Check the cleaner’s result and the software still installed before treating a remaining folder as disposable.
If you no longer want the utility, remove it through the appropriate package uninstaller and follow its restart instructions. Then check whether the service still points to an existing file and whether another ASUS app needs it. For unexplained leftovers, give support the exact service name and path. Avoid standalone EXE download sites, mass-removal scripts, and manual service or registry deletion as a first response.
If the copy does not match your ASUS software
Investigate further when the executable runs from an unexplained folder such as %LOCALAPPDATA%\Temp, has an invalid or unrelated signature, appeared after an unknown installer, or accompanies repeated security warnings. None of these clues alone identifies a malware family.
Keep the path and warning details, avoid opening the file, and inspect what starts it. The suspicious startup apps checklist helps trace an entry that recreates a process after reboot.
If an unverified copy ran or keeps returning, ending the visible process may leave its installer, scheduled task, service, or other persistence behind. Run a full Gridinsoft Anti-Malware scan, review detections, restart, and check again if the activity returns. A scan can help find malicious components; it does not repair a legitimate ASUS package or prove that no compromise occurred.
If the process path is wrong, the name imitates a Windows component, or high CPU started after an unknown installer, scan for hidden miners, services, startup entries, and bundled components.

- The same workload no longer leaves atkexComSvc.exe consuming sustained CPU.
- No new matching application errors appear during the reproduced test.
- The ASUS controls you actually use still work, including device and fan-profile controls where applicable.
- After removal, any remaining service or shared component has an identified owner.
If the system still freezes while the service is quiet, continue investigating the system crash. Send ASUS support the device model, Windows build, utility versions, exact error details, and the shortest reliable reproduction. Share diagnostic files privately through the vendor’s support channel.
FAQ
Why is an ASUS service on a non-ASUS motherboard?
The motherboard brand is only part of the installation history. Check ASUS graphics-card or peripheral utilities, older software, and hardware upgrades. An ASUS community report describes the process on an Aorus motherboard with an ASUS graphics card. Verify your own file and installed package instead of deciding from the board brand alone.
Does Event ID 1000 prove atkexComSvc.exe caused a blue screen?
No. It identifies an application failure when that is what the event records. Establish the time sequence and inspect the system’s stop code or crash evidence separately. A service failure can be a symptom occurring near a wider problem.
